Anthony Davis out for one Month With Foot Injury: What it Means for Lakers and Potential Trades

Los Angeles Lakers PF Anthony Davis suffered a foot injury in Friday’s win over the Denver Nuggets that will sideline him for the next month (Shams Charania, The Athletic). Davis has had a career year so far this season, averaging 2.6 assists, 27.4 points (10th in league), and 12.1 rebounds (2nd). Currently sitting at 12-16, the Lakers don’t really have anywhere to go but down after this detrimental injury.

The Los Angeles Lakers have consistently been in trade rumors ever since they traded for point guard Russell Westbrook in July of 2021. As the big 3 of James, Davis and Westbrook came off to a slow start in the 2021-22 season, Westbrooks name began to appear in rumors. Two of the most common deals involved either Houston’s John Wall or Indiana’s Myles Turner and Buddy Hield for Westbrook and Lakers first round picks.

Due to Westbrook shining in a new sixth man role this season, Los Angeles has shifted away from packages surrounding him and towards new addition Patrick Beverley and Kendrick Nunn. With a hole in the form of a top 5 big man, the Lakers will likely look to trade one of these packages to get a center in return. The name who has gone around the most as of recent is San Antonio center Jakob Poeltl. Seeing as it has been thought that LA would try to acquire Poeltl before the injury, it would not be surprising if they decide to pursue him in the coming weeks. After this Davis injury, Los Angeles is certain to look for a center to pair up with James and Westbrook for the time being.
