Derek Carr Released by Raiders: Rating Potential Landing Spots for the Veteran QB

After longtime Raiders Quarterback Derek Carr was released by the raiders, we couldn't help but ask ourselves what the best fit for him would be. After Las Vegas and the New Orleans Saints had the structure for a trade in place, Carr decided that he wants to be released and be in complete control of where he ends up. After being cut by Vegas on Tuesday, he is now able to be signed by any team at any point. Even though it has been reported that New Orleans and the New York Jets were the only teams to inquire about Carr, it is very likely that will not be the case now that he is a free agent. Today, we will discuss who will likely make the biggest push for Carr and how likely we think it is that he will be playing in their uniform next season.

New Orleans Saints

Likelihood: 8/10

After Derek Carr told the Raiders he didn't want to be traded, it looked like we wouldn't see him in black and gold this upcoming season. However, more reports have come out since then that indicates the possibility of Carr heading to New Orleans isn't out of the question. Carr had multiple meetings with the Saints that lasted very long, meaning there is at least some mutual interest. Of course, now that other options are open, he could prefer to play elsewhere. But still, they are definitely one of the favorites to land the vet QB.

As for fit, the Saints are definitely lacking QB play. Last season their quarterbacks were the likes of Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, and Taysom Hill. And although Dalton did give some life to the offense at times, the team would definitely love a guy like Carr to be in that QB room. We also think this is an attractive offense to a guy like Carr, sharing the backfield with Alvin Kamara (should he not get suspended), and throwing to guys like Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry downfield. Furthermore, we believe New Orleans is still the most likely team to have Derek Carr leading their offense next season.

New York Jets

Likelihood: 7.5/10

After it came out that the Jets will be meeting with Derek Carr, they jumped right up there with the Saints in the Carr sweepstakes. The biggest part of this deal would likely be hanging on whether or not New York can land Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. As you can imagine, Rodgers seems to be their first choice. But of course, they would surely be satisfied with Vegas' all-time leading passer as a compromise. In theory, however, there shouldn't be a better-looking spot for Carr, from a team perspective.

This Jets team truly seems like it is a quarterback away. Carr would definitely love to pass to Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore and be able to hand it off to Breece Hall. We're also sure the feeling would be mutual, seeing the QB play the promising young talent is used to. And on the defensive side, Carr has never had a defense perform as well as this New York defense. Despite having Maxx Crosby, the Raiders' defense was never close to as talented as Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, C.J. Mosley, and company. Looking at this team on paper, the only thing that is holding back Carr from wearing Green and black is Aaron Rodgers.
